Living with dogs improves children's emotional growth.

Hello Arquilovers!

Today we want to share with you the results of a study conducted by a research team from the Department of Psychology at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV): Having a dog increases the emotional and social development of our children.

To carry out the investigationThe team interviewed a very diverse group of 120 children. They ranged in age from 3 to 5 years old, from different socioeconomic levels, and attended public and private schools. The research was conducted with two distinct groups of children: those who had a dog at home and those who had no contact with animals. This excluded children who had occasional contact with dogs or attended therapy sessions with them.

The general result of having a dog at home has been that at early ages it helps with emotional and social development., demonstrating many benefits in the following fields:

- Affection

- Children's self-image

- Interaction of children with adults

- Expression of feelings

- Cooperation and interaction among equals

- Social role

Researchers have also emphasized that, although having a dog brings many benefits to our children, not having one does not imply slower or "worse" development.
